Men’s basketball team ties for sixth place in RMAC standings 

 

 

Feb. 9, 2024, MSU Denver’s men’s basketball team beat South Dakota Mines 83-80 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference putting them in sixth place alongside Chadron State.

With only 2:31 minutes left in the game, Roadrunners guard KJ Garrett scored two layups back-to-back putting MSU Denver in the lead 74-73. 

While South Dakota Mines fought back for the lead, a couple free throws later by Brayden Maldonado, Quave Propst-Allison, and Caleb McGill put MSU Denver back in the lead at 82-79. Garrett got the final free throw in with two seconds left ending the game 83-80.

Maldonado was the highest scorer with 23 points, McGill scored 18 points, and Garrett scored 13 points.

Stars of Honor were in the audience which are elementary schoolers recognized for their academic achievements. The game was also coaches vs. cancer night where basketball coaches come together for a common cause.
